IIOM seeks to promote and support the adoption of Obsolescence Management best practices and actively encourages the professional development of the role of Obsolescence Management. This will be in accordance with the Internationally recognised Obsolescence Standard IEC62402.

One reason for this is that, increasingly, customers are asking for information about the nominated Obsolescence Management contact in their bidding process as they seek to improve performance and reduce obsolescence risk in contracts.

With this in mind IIOM have developed a competence framework where essential skills are recognized against different job titles and a clear path from the Certificate to the diploma is clear. A working group of member companies has formed this framework.

From the competence framework IIOM are developing certificate and diploma education programmes to enable Obsolescence Engineers, Managers, and Directors to demonstrate their competence within their own organisations’ and to prospective customers.
